How Can severe Upper Respiratory Infection Be Treated?

My husband has upper respiratory infection . His blood pressure is quite hi on our monitor. He wants to know if an illness can cause this? His diabetes goes up when he is sick, but what about his BP? and should he stay away from anything other than salt?

Treatment for upper respiratory infection in adults usually require antibiotics. For now you can try warm water gargles and steam inhalation, if there is no fever. If he is a smoker, then he must avoid smoking. This is because smoking, usually precipitate upper respiratory infection and will also increase BP. Diabetes is known to worsen with infection and also reduces immunity. If the infection is severe with high fever, you will need physical examination by a physician. You can take paracetamol to subside fever.
